Association of Amoxicillin Use During Early Childhood With Developmental Tooth Enamel Defects


Many antibiotics have been introduced and are commonly prescribed for childhood infections.

Some antibiotics, such as tetracyclines, clearly influence the development of the tooth.

However, little is known regarding the effects of most drugs in this therapeutic class.

Amoxicillin is one of the most common antibiotics used among pediatric patients, mainly for the treatment of otitis media, and even a small effect on dental enamel could have a significant effect on the public’s dental health because of its widespread use.
